I ordered this several months ago, and it showed up on my doorstep the day after the earthquake, whereupon I totally forgot about it. This is the first spare moment I've had since then to actually even look at it.
There's something comforting about the fact that neither Japan's postal system nor Godzilla collectible manufacturing industry seem to have been affected by the disaster.
What is this Mechagodzilla and where can I get some info on it? It's absolutely stunning.

It's a limited-edition reproduction of an old Seventies vinyl toy, produced by Bullmark. Unfortunately the ordering window has long since passed, but you might be able to find them in online auctions and such. There's a glow-in-the-dark version too.

Leave Japan and say goodbye to its "Godzilla collectible manufacturing industry"?
Pass.
Thanks again for sticking around and reporting on what's been going on. It's an understatement that you helped keep a lot of people from going nuts during the past few weeks.

Thanks, but I'm only just sort of "thinking out loud" online. It's been a crazy time for everyone. Actually sitting down and taking a look at this crazy collectible really reminded me what I love about this place.

I totally get where you're coming from.
The day before the quake, I ordered a Mospeada artbook from HLJ. It was on back order so I knew I wouldn't see it for a while.
After the quake I kind of forgot about it, being so absorbed by all the news online and on TV (and your blog and tweets of course Matt). But then, early last week a package arrived in the mail, and to my surprise the artbook had arrived!
For some reason, the thought of this insignificant, little package winging its way from Japan to the UK filled me with a kind of relief and confidence in Japan that no news report had managed to. Because even though the country was in turmoil, it was still getting things done, even these trivial day to day things like posting out international mail.
Out of all the artbooks in my collection, I think I'll always remember that when I pull this one out. 'Ganbare Nippon' indeed.
