We just wrapped shooting another episode of everyone's favorite "hit" show, Tokyo Eye! This time, I take Miss Universe Japan 2007 finalist Ako Koizumi on a tour of some of my favorite watering holes in Tokyo. "Denki Bran," Hoppy, "Chu-hi," major and micro-brews, quaffed in everything from Yurakucho dives, to rooftop beer gardens, to brew-pubs... It's a tough job, but somebody's got to do it. The episode will stream live on the NHK World website at the following times (JST):
September 9 (Wed) at 9:30 am
1:30 pm
5:30 pm
9:30 pm
Translated into American Eastern Standard Time, that is:
September 8 (Tues) at 8:30 pm
September 9 (Wed) at 12:30 am
4:30 am
8:30 am
Down the hatch!
Ah man....that looked like fun. I love beer. And shochu. And Hoppy.
Rachel and I were actually at that Keio Beer Garden the time before last.
I think that Ginza Beer Hall was in the movie 他人の顔.
Both Yurakucho and Shinbashi looked like so much fun. Definitely next time.
9 microbreweries in Tokyo....I've got 9 of them within a 2 mile radius here in Seattle. ;)
Honesty time....how was DenkiBran and how was the beer at the brewpub? The weizen looked pretty damn tasty.

The brewpub we visited, Sumida River Brewing Company, is actually an Asahi operation, so even though they're brewing everything in the restaurant I don't know how "micro" it really is. I thought their beers stacked up really well against the ones I've had in the 'States. Definitely a cut above the mass brewed stuff, though you pay for it (the place is pretty "upscale.")

Oh, and Denki Bran? Think "Jägermeister."

Yeah, I'll pass. You guys didn't film that all in one day, did you? That was a good amount of booze. Peppler was downing what you gave him. He appears to be trained in the drinking arts. ;)
