Patrick Macias and I take on the world's largest Gundam model with the help of the mysterious Masked Bakuc (motto: "popularize supreme GUNPLA culture with me!")
Look for the full scoop in Patrick's upcoming magazine Otaku USA, hitting American newsstands in June. In the meantime, enjoy Hiroko's shot of the big guy above, check out some behind the scenes pics on ToyboxDX, or catch the video teaser on You Tube!
Is this what that "Japanese Business Metting" was about?

Bakuc is a man of few words. Why wasn't _he_ the one taking the robot off the cart?
The sound effects on that thing are killer, though.

OK, I guess I'll be the first to geek out...Waaaah! Great color molding and nice MATTE finish (yes, Yamato Garland, I am looking at you). So one of you guys got to take it home? Joint custody with visitation rights?
I remember when Newtype Hobby gave away a 1:35 resin FSS KOG at the first Anime Expo model contest. And I thought THAT was big.
You guys rock, may I steal your life? In the harmless figurative sense of course.

Bandai's been extremely generous, but not to the extent of giving a pair of wacky gaijin a $3000 freebie. RX-78 remains at Bandai HQ (you can see me moving him on a dolly to his final resting place, and nearly getting crushed in the process, at the end of the video clip.)

Aw, too bad! It looked like you were hauling it out to the door.

Are you talking about Newtype Hobby that used to be on 9th and Irving in SF? If so, that was a great place. Still go past there everyday on my way to work.

Shawn,
Yeah, that's them. I never went to the store but used to order from them and shop their booth at the shows. Back before internets, that was the place!

I remember Newtype Hobby too -- it was pretty much my only source for obscure garage kits back in the day. Whatever happened to the place? Long out of business, I assume?

Yeah, unfortunately the store is gone. Went out of business in the summer of 02.
