    15,284 km to Tokyo

    Kayak

On a whim, Hiroko queried Google Maps for directions from Tokyo to Washington DC. Rather than an aircraft, it advises kayaking across the Pacific, with a brief stop in Hawaii -- just like common sense would indicate. This is too awesome to not be intentional... I think? The direct water-to-highway connections would assume ownership of a vehicle akin to 007's hover-gondola from "Moonraker." Google Maps

The usual disclaimer they have at the bottom only makes it better:

"These directions are for planning purposes only. You may find that construction projects, traffic, weather, or other events may cause conditions to differ from the map results, and you should plan your route accordingly. You must obey all signs or notices regarding your route."

Wow, so they've upgraded their means of transportation, then? A year or so ago someone told me to put in directions from Boston to London and it actually told you to SWIM across the Atlantic! Kids today.... with their kayaks...

I wonder if that means we can hope for an upgrade to sailboats in the near future?

mmmm, that is a huge challenge to be done. I bet no one have done this before, so you could be really famous person on the earth...

I'd think I'd rather take the Lotus that turns into a sub....
