Born in Washington DC in 1973, Matt Alt has been working as a professional Japanese translator and freelance writer since the mid-1990s. In 2003, he co-founded AltJapan Co., Ltd., a company specializing in the localization of Japanese entertainment products for English-speaking markets. His work as a writer and specialist in Japanese pop-cultural phenomena has appeared in magazines including Wired, Otaku USA, ToyFare, Anime Invasion, Super 7, the Japanese-language Eiga Hi-Ho and Figure Oh, and on the Playboy website, among many others. He is also the co-author of Hello, Please! Very Helpful Super Kawaii Characters from Japan (2007), and Super #1 Robot (2005), a pictorial history of Japanese robot toys, both published by Chronicle Books. He currently lives in Tokyo.
